Books on Decline, E-Readers on the Rise

In recent years, there has been an increase in e-reader purchases. In line with this, the sale of printed book has significantly decreased and e-books have risen. As this trend seems to be unbending, e-readers are becoming more popular since it offers more features and innovations in reader support. It is not only the sale of printed books that is slowly declining, but printed magazines and newspapers are affected as well. Hence, it is high time to get an e-reader, since you can save a lot as compared to purchasing individual books, magazine, and newspapers.

eBooks have many formats including PDF, EPUB, and Microsoft LIT. In view of the fact that there are many formats for eBooks, some e-reader are designed to handle multiple formats. This feature of e-readers is surely a boon for book lovers and avid readers. There is no need to convert files just to read a simple book, with a simple click; reading will be seamless and effortless. Though there are a lot of free eBooks online, some files are protected by DRM or Digital Rights Management which protects the file from being pirated.

Though it is clear that e-readers are slowly replacing printed books, magazines, and newspapers; there are still staunch opposition in the use of such. Since e-books are easier to circulate, piracy of materials more likely will increase as well. This will be a problem in content management and will surely hit the publishing industry really hard. Due to this problem, some wouldn't recommend the use of e-readers.

Also, it is said that e-reader do not have the same feel as a real printed book or materials. However, some readers are using E-Ink technology which endows e-readers with a paper-life display. Simply put, it is similar reading a text on paper. As regards the number of books or reading material an e-reader can handle, it would depend on the unit.

One of the most popular brands of e-reader is the Amazon Kindle Fire, which can store around 6000 titles. An excellent alternative to the Kindle is the iPad, which not only serves as an e-reader but a tablet computer as well. In choosing the right type of e-reader, you must consider what you will use it for. If you are simply after the reading experience and the real-book feel, opt for a monochrome reader. On the other hand, if you need more than just a reader, it would be best to get reader and tablet computer in one.
